Important Holiday Safety Tips from OlyPets In-Home Pet Care

Whether you’re celebrating Easter, Passover or simply welcoming the sun back to Port Angeles, it’s important that you keep your furry children safe this weekend.

Here are a few things to be aware of, so that you don't spend your holiday in the emergency room.

Most people don’t know that lilies are one of the most dangerous plants that a kitty can get a hold of. Not only are they poisonous when ingested, but merely licking the pollen off of their paws or drinking the water from a vase of these plants can prove fatal. So, please think twice before bringing lilies into your home if you have a kitty or sending them in a bouquet to others who have them.

Much like Christmas tinsel, plastic grass from Easter baskets can be very tempting.  When consumed, the grass can get caught in pets’ intestines causing very serious health concerns.  Please keep plastic grass and other small decorations out of reach of your pets.

I think most people probably know that chocolate is toxic for dogs, but cats and ferrets can also suffer severe health problems from eating chocolate.  So, please keep all candies, especially those made with chocolate and the artificial sweetener, Xylitol (which is also poisonous to pets) away from your inquisitive critters.

OlyPets In-Home Pet Care wishes you and your pets a safe and happy Easter, Passover and sunny day!
